stands for Joint Academic NETwork. A university
based network that has been established
in the United Kingdom. Japan

(JUNET) is Asian network
of UNIX computers.
Java
is a
proprietary programming language that
is used to develop web applications that
work on web pages and can run over
networks. Java usually works through an
applet that is a small application or
executable file. These programs provide
user interactivity
and functionality to web sites. Java can be used to build complex systems
that involve several different computers
interacting across networks providing distributed
processing and works in conjunction with wireless
technologies. JavaScript
is a programming language used on
the web called a scripting
language that runs on the client-side
of the web architecture. It was created
by Netscape Corporation who support and distribute it over the Internet.
It is used to add functions to web
pages by adding interactive features
such as form validation. When JavaScript is included in the HTML
to create enhanced web pages it is called Dynamic
HTML.

stands for Job Control Language. This is a programming
language that performs batch processing
instructions for jobs. A job is a unit
of work to be done by the computer system.

physical buttons, and sometimes a steering wheel. It is usually offered
as an optional device with the system and only works with specially designed
games. The joystick plugs into a connection port
usually located on the back of the computer. Sometimes there is a connector
for the joystick on the computer's sound
card.

JPG
or JPEG
stands
for Joint Photographic Expert Group. It is a popular compressed format
for image files used in HTML documents
to publish graphic images on the web. It
uses varying options of data loss during
compression to provide the publisher
flexibility between the image quality and the viewing speed. Images
are usually published on the web using either in a GIF
or JPEG format. PNG is another format that
is sparingly used and is more similar to GIF. In general, JPEG is the
superior format for photographic or continuous-tone images.

Jumpers
are tiny electrical conductors that enable the user
to directly customize the hard drives,
circuit boards, motherboard
or other hardware that is inside a
computer. By placing the jumper over
two pins to connect them or by not connecting the two pins changes the
configuration of the hardware. See the manual to the hardware for the
proper jumper configurations. JUNET
stands for the Japan UNIX Network. It is Asian
network of UNIX
computers.
