Decimal fractions are common fractions converted
into decimal form by dividing the numerator
by the denominator. In the decimal
system of numeration the results yield a decimal fraction. A decimal fraction
consists of an integer part, then a decimal
point, and then a decimal part
which contains the tenths, hundredths, thousandths and so forth. The ratio
of any two integers always is a rational number. A
rational number converts to a decimal fraction that has a finite number of
digits or an infinitely repeating decimal part. The
decimal part of an irrational number cannot be expressed
by a finite number or a series of repeating numbers, instead it is a continuous
stream of random, nonrepeating numbers.
